The artist

André
Nadal

André Nadal is a French painter born in Oran in 1952, who grew up in the south of France. Trained as an industrial draughtsman, he turned to the fine arts and devoted himself entirely to painting from the 1980s.

His work is part of an aesthetic exploration of rhythm, light and visual illusion. Influenced by optical art, he builds geometric and mental universes made of lines, tensions and subtle superimpositions.

He paints exclusively in oils – for their intense blacks, their delicate play of light and the almost mineral vibration they lend to the surface.

Artistic approach

Between abstraction, structure and meditation – painting the invisible.

Paintings

Geometric compositions in which light, rhythm and structure build a sensitive space. Each canvas works as an autonomous visual system that comes alive differently depending on the viewing angle and the light.

Working the material

Executed in oil paint, the surfaces reveal deep blacks, subtle contrasts and an inner light that shifts with the gaze. The depth and suppleness of this technique lie at the heart of the approach.

Visual experience

Each canvas offers a progressive reading, between immediate perception and mental immersion, where form becomes space. Repetition, variation and contrast produce effects of depth and vibration.

Gaze and perception

Beyond structure, each composition invites a silent face-to-face with the image – between balance and tension. The gaze does not settle. It circulates, doubts, recomposes.
